Detector Dogs

Potential Detector Dogs

All our dogs have a strict medical, physical and mental Pre-screening before they are considered.

A potential detector dog is one that has not been trained to detect an explosive or drug odor. These dogs exhibit pronounced interest in looking at, pursuing and holding reward objects.

They also have a pronounced independent olfactory search behavior (i.e. sniffing)

All our potential detector dogs have an aptitude of going in "SIT" position to indicate "TARGET" of search. We have dogs that sit automatically on cue (either command or odor) and dogs that accept the sit-training procedure with ease, without disrupting the search behavior or reward object interest following the sit.

The target of search may be Reward objects and range of neutral substances such as anisole or eucalyptol etc, or the reward object placed together with the target odor.

Environmental conditioning

All our dogs are desensitized and bold in response to environmental stimuli such as interiors of building, slick surfaces, elevated surfaces, stairs, noisy objects, crowds of people, and other stressors/distracters. Even under unfamiliar stressful situations they behave confidently and fearlessly. Our dogs maintain a good temperament and discipline under stress.

Dog Behaviors and traits

Our dogs have a strong drive and focus for reward objects. The reward object is usually a Kong or a ball. These dogs have a tendency to resist distraction and always maintain high levels of interest for reward objects. All our dogs have a huge retrieval drive and are very eager to retrieve thrown reward objects. Even after possession they maintain a keen interest in the reward object.

In general our detector dogs display the following behaviors and traits:-
1) Continued interest in the reward object
2) Keen perusal of thrown reward object
3) Strong Olfactory search behavior
4) Sustained uninterrupted search behavior
5) Passive searching (i.e. No scratching, clawing or biting objects in the environment while searching)
6) High physical stamina / physical activity
7) Handler-friendly and friendly towards persons approaching the handler in a friendly or neutral fashion.
8) Completely obedience trained.

Pre-trained Detector Dogs

All pre-trained detector dogs have the qualities of "Potential detector dog"
Pre-trained detector dogs display vigorous and independent olfactory search behavior, clear recognition of drug or explosive odor accompanied by distinct changes of behavior, accurate and skilled localization of odor source, withholding of final response until localization, prompt and reliable final response once at source. They are able to detect and localize odors in the following areas: - (Warehouses, vehicles, buldings, baggage, sports grounds/theaters and on a person- or approximate equivalents).

They can indicate training aids hidden at different heights and depths. All our dogs independently indicate the presence of training aid using a "sit".

Environmental Conditioning

All our dogs have a focused and continued search behavior under gunfire. Our dogs are acclimatized to working in hot environments and to cover very large areas. They have high levels of physical activity and stamina, and a high degree of resistance to thermal stress.

Training

Minimum additional training is required form the client for customization.
